Known as Αἰγονσα (Latin: Aegūsa) by the Greeks, the island was later called Aponiana and then Favoniana, which eventually became Fagognana and finally Favignana, the island enchants visitors with its distinctive butterfly shape and the crystal-clear sea that surrounds it.
